Celebration of Learning Night

Last Friday the girls school held their Celebration of Learning night. Charis had a big project due called Wax Museum. She chose Helen Keller for her project. She has been working on writing a paper, a speech, a costume and making this board for the last few months.
In Emma's class we were taken on a little tour of her room and all the things she has been learning for this year. My mom was there so she and Ben enjoyed looking around the room.

Decade Day and Other Random Things

The girls school held decade day last week. Charis knew right away that she wanted to be Laura Ingalls. She was from the 1870's.
Figuring out what Emma would be was a little harder. We ended up choosing the 1970's. She makes a pretty good hippie!

I made spaghetti for dinner the other night. Emma LOVED it!
Emma is in 1/2 day kindergarten this year so I try to use our afternoons together to do something productive. This day we made homemade cheez-its. They turned out really yummy!
For Valentine's Day Charis gave me a book of coupons. After our big wind storm then rain storm the other day, I decided to put one of those coupons to good use!
Emma is learning to write in kindergarten. Here she wrote a letter to her cousin, Savannah.
"Dear Vanna, I want to play. I love you. Love, Emma"

Easter 2013

Easter came so early this year! But we tried to make the best of last minute plans! The girls and I colored eggs using Kool Aid this year. It made for an interesting set of colors but they smelled really good!

Two days before Easter we drove out to Ben's grandparent's house where the girls were spoiled with these giant Easter baskets. It must have been a long hard day because they both fell asleep in the car on the way home. That doesn't really happen very much any more.

I made deviled eggs with dinner one night and Emma tried it for the first time. After she took a bite she made a funny face and said, "I don't really like the frosting part."
On Easter Sunday we went to church early in the morning. Our church always holds their Easter service outside and much earlier than normal. It was a beautiful day!
After church we headed over to some friends' house for a delicious lunch and ended up staying most of the afternoon.
Charis is good friends with these two girls and they had fun playing outside then they had a rousing game of Monopoly.

This is most of the kids while they were waiting for the egg hunt.
As soon as we said go they ran out in search of whatever sugary treasure they could find.

Smedly (on of the dads) likes to hide the eggs in some pretty complicated places!

A few days ago our family made a trip to the local archery range. Ben practiced with his bow (he's going turkey hunting...who wants to join us for Thanksgiving this year?)
Charis practiced with her bow as well.
Then the kids went and played at the park nearby. That's Charis in the middle!

Most of what we are doing is school, school and more school. The girls have 6 1/2 more weeks until Summer break!
